Willow was awarded 2 G4’s at the Durango Kennel Club shows May 18 and May 20.
Willow is now the top Bichon Bitch for grand champion points won in 2017. She is number three in the overall rankings with 139 points. Only Flynn and Gabriel are ahead of her. The number for Dogs in the rankings has gained 83 points to date. These numbers are reflected as of June 16, 2017 on AKC’s website.
Blade -AKC name Shira Yuri’s Samurai Sword finished at 6.5 months old with five majors. Blade is Willow’s son.
Rosie-AKC name Shira Yuri’s Scarlet Rose finished at 11.5 months old with four majors.

Another nice day near the beach, Summerfest was 3 days of shows in Camarillo, California. Hollyhock’s Lucie (Hollyhock My Heart Stood Still) took the majors all 3 days and is the club’s newest Champion, finishing with 4 majors and another major on Sunday for her first major toward her Grand Champion title.

The BFCSD’s annual Garden Party and Rescue Raffle was held at the Saturday show where we did a supported entry. The weather was HOT but the gathering was in well attended and Gene had come through again this year with a huge tent under the shade trees. The raffle took in about $600 for bichon rescue and a personal campaign initiated by Jenny Listug leading up to the event brought in over $4,000 more for bichon rescue.

Ford McFarlane passes away
Ford McFarlane 1940-2017
It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Ford McFarlane, long time BFCSD and BFCA member, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 as the result of complications of gall bladder surgery. He was 77.
Ford was a past President and Board Member of the BFCSD for many years. He tackled the difficult job of Show Chairman for our Specialties as well. Ford and his wife Diana have been BFCSD and BFCA members since the late 1980’s.
The McFarlanes became BFCSD members after meeting club members Barbara Stubbs, Lois Morrow and Linda Rowe at the Silver Bay Kennel Club show. At that time they had one pet store Bichon. It wasn’t long until they had several show dogs that they showed to their conformation titles with Linda Rowe under the Hollyhock prefix. More recently they were involved with Norwich Terriers that they showed under the Haverhill prefix.
If asked to describe Ford all would describe him as a sweet guy who would do anything for his friends and was especially devoted to his wife, Diana. At every BFCSD event Ford could be counted on to not only do his job, but to be available to help others without needing to be asked.
Ford loved his dogs and am certain all who knew him can picture him sitting in “his chair” with a lap full of Bichons. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
